Michael Faye In 1996 Michael earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he studied history and political science. Michael attended the Michigan State University College of Law and graduated in 2003 near the top of his class. Michael was licensed to practice law in 2003 and began his career with the Colorado State Public Defenders Office as a trial attorney. During his 8 years as a Colorado State Public Defender, Michael developed a reputation as someone who has a passion for working with and on behalf of his clients. He quickly became a highly respected and skilled trial attorney, earning hundreds of not guilty verdicts for his clients. In 2011 Michael founded the Law Firm of Glassman & Faye, PC
James Marshall Recently James opened his own practice in Alamosa: Marshall Law, L.L.C. James started his legal career with the Colorado State Public Defender system in the Durango Regional Office. identified a need to serve individuals in the "justice gap". These are people that do not qualify for free legal services, but cannot pay traditional market rates for the legal services that they need. He left the public defenders when I was accepted into the inaugural cohort of Legal Entrepreneurs for Justice. LEJ was founded upon the idea of addressing this "justice gap". He also does contract work for the OADC. As part of his involvement in LEJ, he performed dozens of hours of ADC work pro bono during the first six months of the LEJ program. This allowed him to make a name for himself in a new community and legal market. Now, the majority of his caseload is court-appointed work.
Jessica Jones Jessica graduated from Northeastern University School of Law in 2007, and received her undergraduate degree from Calvin College in 2003. While in law school she worked at the Southern Center for Human Rights in Atlanta, GA, the American Civil Liberties Union, here in Denver, CO; and the Legal Aid Society in Queens, NYC. She currently serves on the board of the Colorado Criminal Defense Institute, the Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, and the Age of Delinquency Task Force, Co-Chair. Awards include: 2014 - 2019 Colorado Super Lawyers Rising Stars, an honor limited to 2.5 percent of attorneys in Colorado; 2015 LYRIC Volunteer of the Year; 2009 Colorado Criminal Defense Bar Gideon Award for remarkable effort to fulfill the promise of Gideon v. Wainwright and dedication to advocacy on behalf of the poor.
Janene McCabe Janene worked for the Colorado State Public Defender from 2001-2019. She practiced in Arapahoe and Adams Counties and was then named as an administrator to the State Office as the Director of Technology Litigation, helping lawyers integrate technology into their practice. Janene held supervisory positions including leading a county court team, providing training, guidance and mentorship. Janene joined the board of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar in 2014 and has been serving ever since. Since 2015 she has served on the National Association of Public Defense steering committee and is the chair of the organization’s Fines and Fees Committee dedicated to finding ways to solve the unconstitutional imposition of jail sentences when people had an inability to pay court costs and fees. Janene testified in Washington D.C. before the United States Commission on Civil Rights regarding this issue. Janene earned her BS in 1993 from Illinois State University; her law degree in 2001 from University of Denver, College of Law. In 2009 she was named Colorado State Public Defender of the Year
A. Tyrone Glover Ty is a partner at Haddon Morgan Forman and previously at Stimson Glover Stancil Leedy, LLC. He also served as a public defender. Ty is a seasoned trial lawyer representing clients facing a wide variety of legal issues. Ty maintains active criminal defense and complex civil litigation practices. He regularly handles high stakes cases in both state and federal courts, achieving favorable outcomes for his clients. In 2012 Ty was awarded the Colorado Public Defender “Bootcamp Lawyer of the Year” recognition in 2012. He is a 5280 Top Lawyer, Super Lawyers Rising Star, Top 40 under 40 Trial Lawyer, and a Top 40 under 40 Black Trial Lawyer.
Jennifer Burnett completed her Master's Degree in Accounting in December 2014 at The University of Colorado Denver, while also working as an accountant and auditor in the University’s Finance Office. Upon completion of her master's degree, she started her own business, LCS Inc. (Legal Counsel Support Inc.), performing billing, bookkeeping, and payroll services for various businesses, including many attorneys and law firms in the Boulder and Denver metro area. Several of her attorney clients have been admitted to the bench and are currently serving as judges in various Colorado courts. She is trained in ADC and CJA billing policies and procedures as well as COLTAF requirements and regulations. She also performs limited paralegal services to select attorney clients and is an approved paralegal with ADC.
JB Katz J.B. is founder of the law offices of J.B. Katz, P.C. in Breckenridge. For 20 years she has been Serving criminal defense clients in Eagle County, Clear Creek County, Lake County, Park County and Summit County of Colorado. She serves on the board of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar and has previously served on the 5th Judicial District nominating commission.
Marshall Breit Marshall is a Partner at Mulligan Breit,McConnell LLC, founded in 2013. Prior to that Marshall was a deputy state public defender for a number of years in Adams County. There, he tried more than 65 jury trial and successfully represented thousands of clients charged with everything from DUI to first-degree murder. He earned his B.A, Emory University and his J.D., at the University of Denver
Laurie Schmidt Laurie is the founding member of Schmidt Law Group, P.C. Laurie is both a Schmidt a Denver criminal defense attorney and a family law attorney. She has been practicing law for over 11 years, serving as Deputy District Attorney for the County of Riverside for over three years of those years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a degree in Finance. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Whittier College School of Law in 2006 and was admitted to the California State Bar in 2007 and Colorado State Bar in 2012.
Mike Beatty Mike is the co-founder of VonFeldt & Beatty Investigations, Inc. Prior to creating VBI in 2011, Mike was employed for five years by the State of Colorado as an Investigator for the Public Defender's Office. His work contributed to the representation of clients in the County and District Courts of Larimer, Jackson, Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln Counties. He is a graduate of Colorado State University, Mike received his BA in Sociology, with a concentration in Criminal Justice. He worked as an Investigative Intern in 1999 for David L. Williams, Inc. and in 2001 for the State of Colorado. From 2004-2006, Mike lived in Austin, Texas, where he was employed as a Court Clerk for Honorable Judge Susan D. Sheppard. Mike is licensed as a Private Investigator II for the State of Colorado and is approved as an Investigator for the Office of Alternate Defense Counsel. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar.
Michael Sheehan Denver Attorney Michael Sheehan was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and his law degree from the University of Denver. After graduating from law school, Mr. Sheehan worked as a trial attorney for the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office. After 6 years, and dozens of jury trials, he left to start his own private practice specializing in Criminal Law. He represents clients in both state and federal court, and is a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel for the District of Colorado. In addition to his criminal defense practice, Mr. Sheehan also represents clients in civil litigation matters, with an emphasis on personal injury cases. Michael earned his law degree at the University of Denver College of Law and his BA from the University of Colorado.
Luke McConnell Luke began his career in 2008 at the Colorado State Public Defender, with the Adams County office in Brighton, one of the busiest metro offices. Luke was a public defender for over five years, where he worked daily on the front lines of his client’s, and all citizen’s, constitutional rights. In 2014, Luke left the public defender’s office to pursue additional practice areas so that he could help people in more diverse ways. In the years since going into private practice, Luke has continued to represent the accused, but has also applied the same tenacity and litigation experience to civil rights litigation and personal injury litigation.. In 2018, Luke joined forces with his esteemed colleagues Marshall Breit and Patrick Mulligan to form a new partnership focused on fighting for clients. Luke earned his BA from Whittier College, and his JD from the University of Oregon School of Law.
