Location: Webinar only
Free members-only webinar sponsored by First Drafts AI
2 Ethics CLE credits anticipated
Seminar description:
This seminar demystifies AI for the average practitioner. Learn about how AI actually works and what lawyers need to know about this emerging technology to comply with ethical professional obligations.
What you'll learn, in plain terms:
- The rules of competence and what the ABA expects lawyers to understand about AI and related technology.
- The rules of confidentiality, the risks of free consumer-grade AI tools, and how to evaluate a tool’s data handling before you use it.
- The rule of candor, the risk of hallucinations, and the need for verification workflows with AI-assisted drafting.
- The rules of supervision and the implications for your legal team's use of AI tools (e.g., what are the tell-tale signs of AI use by your associates?).
The seminar will also delve into other emerging issues. For example, now that Google's Gemini AI is built into Gmail, what are the implications for attorney-client privilege when clients use Gmail to communicate with you? Can you recognize AI-fabricated evidence? Do you have an ethical obligation to know if your client gave you AI-fabricated evidence?
Finally, the seminar will offer a short demonstration of First Drafts AI, an AI-powered drafting assistant designed for litigation attorneys that helps with the creation of legal filings, motions, and discovery requests.
2.0 Ethics CLE credits anticipated.
